Everyone claims to be on the LORD’s side, but this is also true, that all are not on the LORD’s side – Matthew 7:21. Some are sincere, but are off track. Some are sincere, and on the right track, but have the habit of taking detours. Some are tired and exhausted, and are fallen by the wayside. Some think they are on the right side, but are actually on the opposite direction. What about us?
On 13 October in 1877, English hymn-writer, Frances Ridley Havergal (1836–1879) writes the words to the hymn, “Who Is on the Lord’s Side?” It was titled “Home Missions,” and was first published with five stanzas in her 1878 Loyal Responses.
The first stanza says…
Who is on the Lord’s side?
Who will serve the King?
Who will be His helpers,
Other lives to bring?
Who will leave the world’s side?
Who will face the foe?
Who is on the Lord’s side?
Who for Him will go?
Seven questions to every Christian and the disciple of the LORD Jesus Christ. It is a call to ask who will stand for the LORD, and be His witness and His ambassador. It is not enough to call ourselves Christians; read our Bibles, say our prayers and attend the Church and all its activities. This is not what it means to be a disciple.
Being a Christian is to display the LORD Jesus in our thoughts, words and deeds. It is to walk the path of integrity, honesty, transparency, and being trustworthy, in all that we think, speak and do. It is to proclaim the gospel, and declare to the world that, the world is sick and dead, and that there is life only in Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
The last stanza sums it up well for us…
“Chosen to be soldiers
In an alien land:
Chosen, called, and faithful,
For our Captain’s band;
In the service royal
Let us not grow cold;
Let us be right loyal,
Noble, true, and bold.”
We are chose by God to be His slaves, servants, representatives, and His ambassadors, and not because of some special status to enjoy. That is not what the Bible I read tells me.
How are we today? Are we on the LORD’s side??? Can the LORD Jesus count on us to be on His side? Get a quick check today.
"25 Now when Moses saw that the people were unrestrained (for Aaron had not restrained them, to their shame among their enemies), 26 then Moses stood in the entrance of the camp, and said, “Whoever is on the LORD’s side—come to me!” And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him."
