The portion for our meditation is taken from Proverbs 3:19-20. Let us see what can we learn through these verses.
– “19 The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. 20 By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.” – Proverbs 3:19-20
We understand the following from the above Bible portion.
– God used His wisdom, understand and knowledge in creating the universe.
– When we look at the whole of creation, the sun, the moon, the stars, the planets and the earth, we see God’s handiwork and the immensity of His omniscience and His omnipotence.
– We see the Almighty God’s power, understanding and knowledge in the way the whole universe works.
Berean Study Bible Notes, commenting on Proverbs 3:19 observes that “Proverbs 3:19 unveils a fourfold portrait of God: Creator, Wise Designer, Cosmic Architect, and All-knowing Sustainer. The earth rests on His wisdom, the heavens stand firm through His understanding, and all creation continues to reflect His intentional, intelligent care. Trusting a God who founded, established, and fully knows His universe encourages us to rest confidently in His sovereign plan for our lives.”
– The creation account and Proverbs 3:19-20 tell us unambiguously that, God alone is the possessor of all such wisdom, understanding and knowledge.
– We also realise that, we too would need great amounts of wisdom, understanding and knowledge to run our lives.
– Without godly wisdom, understanding and knowledge, we would be running blind in a dark and starless night.
– One cannot overemphasise the significance of godly wisdom, understanding and knowledge in our lives.
Therefore, we too ought to depend on the wisdom, understanding and knowledge of God, for our lives. When we depend upon God, He will help us gain His wisdom, understanding and knowledge. When we have godly wisdom, understanding and knowledge, then, we think, speak and do things wisely.
– “…the wisdom that directs life is the same wisdom that created the universe….to surrender to God’s wisdom is to put oneself in harmony with creation, the world around one.” – Dr. Allen P. Ross
Dear brothers and sisters, let us seek the LORD our God, the One who not only created us, but has also redeemed us by offering Himself as the sinless sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins, on the Cross of Calvary.
– “5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” – James 1:5
– “6 For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; 7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; 8 He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of His saints. 9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice, Equity and every good path.” – Proverbs 2:6-9
– “10 When wisdom enters your heart, And knowledge is pleasant to your soul, 11 Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you, 12 To deliver you from the way of evil…20 So you may walk in the way of goodness, And keep to the paths of righteousness.” – Proverbs 2:10-12a,20
May we always seek the LORD to help us gain His wisdom, understanding and knowledge. May we never forget that in gaining these, we live a fruitful, peaceful and joyful life. Even so, the LORD help us.
"Wisdom is cultivated through a living relationship with Christ...God’s wisdom is not like a bolt of lightning—it’s the kind of wisdom that grows in your spirit on a daily basis as you feast on the Word of God, drawing near to Him. The wisdom of God is not something we can take from God and then leave. It is cultivated through a living relationship with Christ."
