Needs and prayers to the LORD are most common in a Christian’s life. All of us have needs. All of us pray to the LORD, and seek His face to help us with our needs. This is most common of all our prayers.
One such prayer was made by Harold Wildish, in the year 1925. The need was for 30 British pounds, to pay for his ticket, to travel to Guyana, South America. It is quite a substantial amount. What was the reason? He wanted to replace, Wilson Nicholl, a missionary returning home ill. What is the situation? He needed 35 British pounds for his travel. What was the problem? Harold Wildish had only one pound on his hand.
What a strange and difficult situation, isn’t it? Harold Wildish did what most of us would do – pray about it. So he went upstairs, and spread out the letter of invitation, to replace the ailing missionary, and prayed to His LORD and Master, for the need, saying, ‘LORD, “You know what I need.”‘
The next morning Wildish received by post, a cheque for 25 pounds, from a businessman. He said, “But I must have thirty-five.” He was falling short by 10 pounds. So, he continued to pray for the ten pounds that he needed. The very next day, Harold Wildish received another post, from the same person, who sent him 25 pounds, the previous day; and this time, it had exactly ten pounds, that was needed for his travel. The letter inside the cover said, “I could not sleep last night thinking of you. I believe you must need the additional enclosed ten pounds.”
On 05 June 1925 Harold Wildish boards the ship, Amakura, bound for Guyana, South America.
The lesson from this true incident, happened in 1925, which is not very long ago from today, is this – the LORD our God is faithful. Always trust God, to provide for our needs. He never let anyone down, and He never will. He has provided in the past, and He will provide in the future too. If ever, the LORD denies our need, then we need to understand that, there must be a greater reason, for Him, in doing so. Let us remember, the words of our LORD Jesus, always…
– “30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” – Matthew 6:30-33
"Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so."
