Sundar Singh, was one of the staunchest haters of the LORD Jesus Christ, from a very young age. As a young teen, he tore up the New Testament, and burnt it, with great pride. Such was Sundar’s intense and passionate hate for Jesus Christ, the Bible and the Christians. What deep hate for Christ it is.
Things turned upside down, merely three days from that incident. Sundar became restless, distressed, and miserable in his heart and mind, for no particular reason. That night, he began to question God, and made this prayer. “God, whoever You are, reveal Yourself to me. If not, I will die.” Sundar was determined to commit suicide by throwing himself under the train that passed every morning at 5, close to his home.
Such a prayer may not be a great way to seek God. However, the LORD, in His wisdom chose to honour Sundar’s prayer. The room he was in, was filled with bright light early that morning. Sundar also had the honour of a vision of the LORD Jesus Christ. This transformed Sundar from an enemy of Christ, into a disciple of Christ. What a disciple he turned out to be…all glory to God!!!
Today, 03 September, in 1905, more than a century ago, Sundar Singh was baptised, as a public testimony of his faith in the redeeming work of the LORD Jesus Christ, and as an open acknowledgement that he was a sinner, and that he much needed the LORD, to rescue and redeem him from sin, and the consequences of it. What a testimony!
How about you my friend? Have you decided about the LORD Jesus Christ, and His offer of salvation? The cost for the forgiveness of our sins, and its eternal consequences, are paid in full, by our Saviour, on the cross of Calvary. What are you waiting for?
"Should I worship Him [Jesus Christ] from fear of hell, may I be cast into it. Should I serve Him from desire of gaining heaven, may He keep me out. But should I worship Him from love alone, He reveals Himself to me, that my whole heart may be filled with His love and presence."
