The words of the LORD to Joshua, as he took up the mantle of leading the people of Israel into the promised land, are just as important to us, as they were to Joshua, and to the people of Israel. Right from the first day of creation, the LORD is wanting us to see that, the way to a fruitful life is, only through faith and obedience. It could also be said in the words of the hymn, that goes – “Trust and Obey” for there is no other way. To be happy in Jesus, is to trust and obey.
The LORD speaks thus to Joshua, giving Him the ‘secret’ to a fruitful, victorious and successful life – “7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” – Joshua 1:7-8
The LORD Jesus Christ is not so much impressed with our prayers, penitence and fastings, as much as He is impressed with our “FAITH” in Him, and our “OBEDIENCE” in all that He is asking of us. This is the ‘secret’ of a victorious Christian life. May the LORD help us to be found as “good” and “faithful” servants, on the day when we stand before Him.
"The Bible recognizes no faith that does not lead to obedience, nor does it recognize any obedience that does not spring from faith. The two are at opposite sides of the same coin."
