When God created man, He entrusted the earth to man’s care. Human beings were and are the caretakers of the earth and all that is in it – “26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth…28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” “15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.” – Genesis 1:26-28; 2:15
Then, after the fall, the LORD God reiterated it again in the curse that came up us, as a consequence of sin – “17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; 18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; 19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.” – Genesis 3:17-19
The Word of God further states, and encourages us to do every work, that is entrusted to us, with utmost care, and as an act of worship to the LORD – “31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” – 1 Corinthians 10:31. The same is said again, with more clarity in Colossians 3:22-25 – “…23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ…”
Let us remember always, that, every work is sacred, and that, everyone, when we sincerely carry out our responsibilities, are serving God, and the work itself becomes an act of worship, our offering to the LORD God, who is the Giver of all good things, including work. Let us, therefore, do all that is entrusted to us with all our heart, mind and soul.
"You are as much serving God in looking after your own children, and training them up in God’s fear, and minding the house, and making your household a church for God, as you would be if you had been called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of hosts."
