The Apostle Paul has a unique way of communicating great spiritual truths. One such gem is found in 2 Corinthians 12:8-10 – “8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
Paul had a problem. He was bothered by it, and about it. It must have been an important matter for him. Since we don’t know what it is, it is wise not to speculate what it could be. He prayed about it…three times – an indicator to tell us, that Paul earnestly sought the LORD to take it away. Also, he thought it is good for us to know about it!
The LORD in His wisdom simply answered, “My grace is sufficient for thee.” That means, Paul had to trust the LORD, and depend upon Him for grace, that will enable him to move forward…along with the problem.
Simply put, the problem is going nowhere. Paul is exhorted to learn to live with it, with this knowledge, that the LORD will help him. This causes Paul to write, “Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” He goes on to say further, “…for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
Such an attitude is a combination of long-suffering and faith, that will enable us to live for God at all times, by His grace. Therefore, let us learn to lean on the LORD, no matter what is troubling us. His grace is sufficient for us. He will be there right beside us. Take heart!
"We ask God for a calm [and] thankful heart, that sees all the blessings His grace imparts. He can teach us many lessons in illness that can never be learned in health."
