King Charles III was coronated yesterday, 6 May 2023, at the Westminster Abbey. As part of the coronation vows, he solemnly vowed thus – “God of compassion and mercy whose Son was sent not to be served but to serve, give grace that I may find in thy service perfect freedom and in that freedom knowledge of thy truth. Grant that I may be a blessing to all thy children, of every faith and belief, that together we may discover the ways of gentleness and be led into the paths of peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
The Word of God talks about the King of kings, and encourages us to sing praises to the LORD God Almighty, the Creator of all things, the Sovereign who reigns over all, from the eternal past, to the eternal future – “6 Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! 7 For God is the King of all the earth; Sing praises with understanding. 8 God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne.” – Psalms 47:6-8.
Earthly Kings and Queens come and go. The King of kings, the LORD of all, the Creator of the universe, and the eternal Sovereign has to be worshipped in spirit and in truth – John 4:23-24.
May the Sovereign LORD of all Creation, our Redeemer, the King of kings, help us to show our allegiance to Him and Him alone. May we be found faithful and true to our Redeemer, and serve Him and Him alone. So God help us.
"God’s superabundant, prior gift is granted without regard to our relative worth, but the reception of God’s gift demands a return gift from us, a response of grateful discipleship marked by allegiance to King Jesus."
